commentary: glaad releases 8th annual report on queer representation on tv

via Lezbelib:

GLAAD has released its annual report on the representation of LGBT characters on television, cable and Internet over broadcast networks.

Last year, the results were far from satisfactory since the number of LGBT characters on television was very down but this year, things are going much better.

However, there is some work to do in representing transgender people despite the series “Orange is the New Black” from Netflix and “Transparent” from Amazon.

The overall on-screen progress comes as the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community has made social and political strides that include legalization of same-sex marriage in some U.S. states and the end of a military ban on openly gay service members, GLAAD said.
